Rainmeter Installation and Skins       Quote | Edit

This thread is for those that need help installing, skinning, customizing, or all of the above, for Rainmeter. Or those that are having trouble, or just didn't know how to do the darn thing in the first place, like me.

Warning: This tutorial was done on Vista 64-Bit and is Stupid-Proof

Section 1 :: Installation and Usage
    Section 2 :: Configuring Widgets

    ------ Section 1

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    [Topic 1.1] --- Installing Rainmeter:

Rainmeter is available for download from:
    Rainmeter 1.0 RC2 Download

    1. Download
    2. Install
    3. Right click on the Rainmeter tray icon, and remove every Enigma\ widget or sidebar that is running. If you would like to keep any of the widgets running, like Tray Systems, you may leave it.
    -----Visual aid:

    4. Once completed, you may proceed to the next topic.

[Topic 1.2] --- Applying the Rainmeter Gaia09 Skins and Widgets:

The Rainmeter Gaia09 Skins and Widgets are available for download from:
    Rainmeter Gaia09 Skins

    1. Download to the desktop
    2. Right click, and 'Extract Files...' using Winrar

    3. Once extracted, navigate to the folder C:\Users\YourName\Desktop\rainmeter_by_rebek\GAIA09_Rainmeter_Suite\GAIA09
    4. Inside you will have the folders GAIA09_System and GAIA09_Widgets

    5. Copy all the folders from inside both, and move them to C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins
    6. Once all the contents of both folders have been copied to the Rainmeter Skins folder,
    it should look like this:

    7. All the activity of copying and moving folders is now finished. You may delete your unnecessary RAR files and empty download folders.
    8. Once you are done, proceed to the next topic.

[Topic 1.3] --- Using the Rainmeter Widgets and Skins:

    1. Right click on the Rainmeter icon in the tray, and select Refresh All
    -----Visual aid:

    2. Once done, the skins and widgets will appear, and we may begin using them.
    3. Advance to the next topic.

    [Topic 1.4] --- Opening a Rainmeter Widget and/or Skin:

    Example:

    1. Right click on the Rainmeter tray icon, and select configs.
    -----Visual aid:

    2. Now select GAIA09_Date and choose GAIA09_Date.ini
    -----Visual aid:

    3. You should now have the Gaia09 Date Widget with skin on your desktop:
    -----Visual aid:

    4. Tada! You did it!

    5. If you want to customize or edit the options of your widget, just right click.
    -----Visual aid:

    6. Now do the same when installing other Gaia09 Rainmeter Widgets with skins!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------ Section 2

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    [Topic 2.1] --- Configuring Gaia09 Twitter:

    1. Go to http://twitter.com/TypeYourUsernameHere
    2. On the right side of the webpage, click on the link RSS feed of ________'s tweets
    -----Visual aid:

    3. In the Address Bar, copy your user ID.
    -----Visual aid:

    4. Now navigate to the folder C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\GAIA09_Twitter
    5. Open the file GAIA09_Twitter and navigate to the section [Variables:
    -----Visual aid:

    6. Paste your ID over the original one.

    7. Right click on the widget, and select Refresh All
    -----Visual aid:

    8. You're done!

    [Topic 2.2] --- Configuring Gaia09 Clock and Clock3 :

As you are aware, there are two Gaia09 clocks.
    GAIA09_Clock.ini and GAIA09_Clock3.ini

The Gaia09 Rainmeter clock widgets are configured to use 24-Hour time.

This tutorial shows how to enable 12-Hour time for those who prefer it.

How to install 12-Hour Clock Timing:

    ----

    Installing GAIA09_Clock.ini:

    1. Download: GAIA09_Clock.ini
    2. Place the file in the folder C:\Users\Michael\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\GAIA09_Clock and replace the original.

    ----

    Installing GAIA09_Clock3.ini:

    1. Download: GAIA09_Clock3.ini
    2. Place the file in the folder C:\Users\Michael\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\GAIA09_Clock3 and replace the original.

    ----

    3. Right click on the Rainmeter tray icon and select Refresh All
    -----Visual aid:

    4. Once finished, your clocks should have 12-Hour Timing enabled and should look like this:
    -----Visual aid:

    5. You're done!

I figured out how to do everything myself but the 12 hour time is something I didn't figure out. I look forward to your tips.

I figured I would create this for all of those who thought everything looked nice and wanted it, but didn't know how to do it. :)

I'll add the 12 hour time tip tomorrow morning.

Sure! That would definitely be nice. I am currently trying to get an entire tutorial on how to fully get Rainmeter working for those that had no idea on how to do it in the first place, like myself. :)

Thanks for the twitter tutorial! I'll add it as soon as I get home, as well as more other helpers and tips. If you don't mind, I'm going to add just a bit more of detail to make it 100% stupid-proof. :P Basically meaning, I'll just add in "Navigate to the file GAIA09-Twitter in your Rainmeter Skins folder. :)

Alright. Twitter and Clock configuration has been added. Working on Weather and Mail next.

Replace your location code of Weather.com (HUXX0019).
Go to http://www.weather.com/weather/rss/subscription?from=footer to find weather code. Enter "city, state" and submit. Location code is at end of url in address.
You can delete "&unit=m" after Unit for Fahrenheit scale.
    Refresh skin.
